WhatsApp Business statistics 2026: verified figures from Meta's earnings calls, rate cards and national surveys, each with its source
Most "WhatsApp statistics" pages recycle numbers nobody can trace. Every figure below was opened at its source in October 2026, with the publisher and year next to it, and a line on what it means if you run a small business. Where a number is Meta's own claim or a survey Meta paid for, we say so.
Quick answer
WhatsApp has more than 2 billion daily users (Meta, January 2026). Meta says people hold over a billion active threads with businesses every day across its apps, WhatsApp paid messaging passed a $2 billion annual run-rate in late 2025, and more than a million businesses used Meta's Business Agent each week by mid-2026. Adoption varies widely by country: 32% of US adults use WhatsApp (Pew, 2025), while 91% of online adults in India chat with a business weekly (Kantar, cited by Meta).
How many people use WhatsApp in 2026?
More than two billion people a day, by Meta's count. The figures that matter for scale:
| Statistic | Source and date | What it means for a small business |
|---|---|---|
| More than 2 billion daily actives each on Facebook and WhatsApp | Meta, Q4 2025 earnings call, January 2026 | Your customers are very likely on it, outside a few markets |
| 3.6 billion people used at least one Meta app each day | Meta, Q2 2026 earnings call, July 2026 | WhatsApp sits inside the largest messaging footprint in the world |
| More than 1.5 billion daily actives visit WhatsApp's Updates tab | Meta, Q2 2025 earnings call, July 2025 | Status and Channels are a real, if separate, audience |
| All-time record of 30 million messages sent per second, during the World Cup Final | Meta, Q2 2026 earnings call, July 2026 | Expect delivery spikes and slower replies from people during big events |
| 100 million users in the United States | WhatsApp Blog, July 2024 | Large in absolute terms, small as a share of Americans |
How big is business messaging on WhatsApp?
Big enough that it is now a line Meta's finance chief reports every quarter. Most of these numbers come from Meta's earnings calls:
| Statistic | Source and date | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| More than 1 billion active threads with businesses every day on WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram | Meta Newsroom, June 2026 | Messaging a business is normal behavior, not a niche |
| More than 1 billion users connect with a business across Meta's messaging services every week | WhatsApp Business partners page, citing Meta product data from 2022 | An older figure; the daily-threads number above has replaced it |
| WhatsApp paid messaging crossed a $2 billion annual run-rate in Q4 2025 | Meta, Q4 2025 earnings call, January 2026 | Businesses pay real money for official-API messages, mostly marketing and utility |
| Family of Apps other revenue reached $1 billion in a quarter, up 73%, driven mainly by WhatsApp paid messaging and subscriptions | Meta, Q2 2026 earnings call, July 2026 | Meta's incentive is to grow paid business messaging |
| Click-to-WhatsApp ad revenue grew 60% year over year in Q3 2025 | Meta, Q3 2025 earnings call, October 2025 | More advertisers send ad clicks straight into a chat, so replies must be fast |
| US click-to-message ad revenue grew more than 40% year over year in Q2 2025 | Meta, Q2 2025 earnings call, July 2025 | Even in a low-adoption market, chat-based ads are growing |
The click-to-WhatsApp numbers are the ones to act on. If you run ads that open a chat, every slow reply wastes ad spend. Our click-to-WhatsApp ads guide covers setup.
How fast is AI arriving in WhatsApp business chats?
Very fast, from a low base. Meta's Business AI went from test markets to global availability in about a year:
- Over 1 million weekly conversations between people and Business AIs on Meta's messaging platforms, after early launches in Mexico and the Philippines (Meta, Q4 2025 earnings call, January 2026).
- More than 10 million weekly conversations facilitated through Business AIs, up from 1 million at the start of 2026, and the tools were then free for most businesses (Meta, Q1 2026 earnings call, April 2026).
- More than 1 million businesses using Meta Business Agents each week to talk to customers or complete sales, after a global launch on WhatsApp and Messenger (Meta, Q2 2026 earnings call, July 2026).
- 44% more daily bookings and 85% of conversations resolved by AI for Movida, a Brazilian car rental company, in a one-month period. These are Movida's reported results, relayed by Meta on its Q2 2026 call, not an independent study.
What it means: customers will increasingly expect an instant, competent answer on WhatsApp because big brands are training them to. A small business that replies in three hours will feel slower than it did a year ago. Our explainer on Meta's Business Agent covers what Meta's own tool does.
How does WhatsApp business use differ by country?
Enormously. A single global number hides the fact that WhatsApp is the default in some markets and a minority app in others.
| Market | Statistic | Source and year |
|---|---|---|
| India | 91% of online adults chat with a business weekly | Kantar 2025, as cited by Meta (May 2026); Meta's own citation |
| Hong Kong | 71% of consumers engage with businesses on WhatsApp at least weekly | Kantar survey of 500 adults commissioned by Meta, July 2024 |
| Brazil | WhatsApp on the home screen of 64.8% of smartphones, up from 53% a year earlier | Mobile Time and Opinion Box, Super Panorama 2026 |
| Mexico | 90.6% of smartphone users used instant messaging apps (all apps, not WhatsApp alone) | INEGI, ENDUTIH 2025 |
| United States | 32% of adults use WhatsApp; 56% of Hispanic adults | Pew Research Center, 2025 |
| Australia | 33% of mobile messaging app users used WhatsApp, the lowest of the countries surveyed | Statista, April 2022 |

What do Meta's 2026 rate cards reveal?
Meta's pricing documentation is a statistics source in its own right. From the rate cards effective 1 October 2026:
- 47 markets appear on the rate card: 39 named countries and 8 regions such as "Rest of Latin America".
- 16 billing currencies were enabled by July 2026, ten of them added during 2026, including MXN (January), BRL (July) and MYR, SGD and SAR (April).
- 1,000 free service messages per business number per month; replies beyond that are charged from 1 October 2026.
- Marketing message prices vary more than tenfold: from US$0.0109 for Turkey and US$0.0118 for India to US$0.1365 for Germany and US$0.1597 for the Netherlands.
- Service and utility prices vary even more: US$0.0014 per message for India and US$0.0034 for North America, against US$0.026 for Hong Kong and US$0.055 for Germany.
What it means: the same WhatsApp strategy costs very different amounts by country. A marketing message to a German number costs more than eleven times one to an Indian number. Our API pricing explainer walks through the categories; tools that do not use the API, such as ReplyKit (flat plans), pay none of these fees but carry a different risk, explained in our guide to number bans.
Which popular WhatsApp statistics did we leave out?
Several numbers that appear on almost every listicle did not make this page because we could not trace them to a primary source we could open:
- Very high open or read rates for WhatsApp messages. They are often quoted without a named study, sample or date.
- Exact WhatsApp Business app user counts. We could not find a current figure published by Meta, and we did not use secondary sites that repeat unsourced numbers.
- Precise conversion uplifts attributed to WhatsApp in general. Results quoted by vendors are usually one customer's case study.
If you see one of these in a pitch deck, ask for the original study. If nobody can produce it, treat it as marketing.
What do these WhatsApp numbers add up to for a small business?
- Speed is the competitive line. With brands deploying AI on WhatsApp at scale, customers' patience for slow replies is shrinking.
- Check your own market before investing. In India, Brazil, Mexico or Hong Kong, WhatsApp is close to mandatory. In the US or Australia, it is an extra door for specific customers.
- Price the official API by country. Answering is cheap in most markets; broadcasting is where the bill grows.
- Replies, not blasts. The growth Meta reports is in conversations and AI-assisted service. That is also the lowest-risk way to use WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions
How many people use WhatsApp in 2026?
Meta said on its January 2026 earnings call that WhatsApp has more than 2 billion daily active users, and that more than 3.5 billion people used at least one of its apps each day. These are Meta's own figures.

Meta has not published a current count of WhatsApp Business app users that we could verify. It did say in July 2026 that more than 1 million businesses were using its Meta Business Agents each week on WhatsApp and Messenger.
How much money does WhatsApp make from businesses?
Meta said WhatsApp paid messaging crossed a $2 billion annual run-rate in Q4 2025. In Q2 2026, Family of Apps other revenue, driven mainly by WhatsApp paid messaging and subscriptions, reached $1 billion in a quarter, up 73% year over year.

How many conversations do people have with businesses on WhatsApp?
Meta said in June 2026 that people have more than one billion active threads with businesses every day across WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram combined. It does not break that figure down by app.
