Botpress vs Voiceflow: two AI agent builders, two very different ways to buy

Botpress and Voiceflow are both platforms for building your own AI agents rather than buying a finished one. This comparison is for developers, product and CX teams, and agencies deciding between them. It covers how each is priced as of 25 October 2026, which channels each reaches, how voice and WhatsApp work, and a worked Botpress bill.

Quick answer

Choose Botpress if you want published, predictable pricing and broad channels including WhatsApp and web chat: Free covers 100 conversations, Plus is $150 a month billed yearly for 250, Team $750 for 1,500, with packs of 100 extra at $50 to $65. Choose Voiceflow for voice-heavy agents, team workflows and model choice; it charges a plan fee plus credits but does not publish list prices.

What are Botpress and Voiceflow used for?

Both are platforms for designing, building and running custom AI agents: you define knowledge, instructions, workflows and integrations, then deploy the agent to the channels you choose. Neither is a finished agent you switch on; someone has to build it.

Botpress offers a visual builder called Studio, a natural-language builder called Viber, a developer kit, knowledge bases, tables, and an AI helpdesk called Botpress Desk. Voiceflow positions itself as a platform for enterprise customer experience teams, with an agent builder that mixes agentic playbooks and scripted workflows, an observability suite, and production environments from development to staging to live. Voiceflow is especially strong on voice agents.

What do Botpress plans include, and at what price?

Botpress charges by conversation. Free is $0 for 100 conversations a month; Plus is $150 a month billed yearly for 250; Team is $750 a month billed yearly for 1,500; Enterprise is custom. Yearly billing saves 20%.

Three rules from Botpress's FAQ shape the bill:

Storage beyond plan limits is $40 a month for 100,000 table rows, 1 GB of vector storage and 10 GB of files. Our Botpress pricing guide works through more volumes.

How much does Voiceflow cost?

Voiceflow does not publish list prices. Its own company facts page, updated 14 October 2026, describes the model as a monthly plan fee plus credit-based usage on Free, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans, and says prices on third-party sites may not match current plans.

Prices are shown inside the Voiceflow dashboard under Plans and Billing. We have left out the figures that circulate on third-party sites because Voiceflow itself says they may be out of date.

Which channels do Botpress and Voiceflow support?

Botpress covers more messaging channels out of the box, including WhatsApp. Voiceflow is stronger on voice and runs on web chat, phone and SMS, with other channels reached through its API.

Botpress

Webchat with white-labeling on Plus and above, WhatsApp, Slack and many other channels and integrations, including Intercom, Zendesk, HubSpot and Salesforce. Voice is listed as an Enterprise channel; for voice calls, 3 minutes count as one conversation.

Voiceflow

Web chat with a voice mode, phone numbers and SMS, plus custom interfaces through its REST API. Its company facts page does not list WhatsApp, so a WhatsApp agent needs a custom connection or a third-party bridge.

Botpress's WhatsApp integration runs on Meta's official platform. Its documentation says you need a Facebook business page and a WhatsApp Business Account, that Meta verifies your business before the bot can message users, and that WhatsApp payment problems relate to the payment method on your WhatsApp business account. So Meta's per-message charges are billed through your own Meta account. Since 1 October 2026 those include service replies above 1,000 a month per number, as set out on Meta's pricing page.

What would a Botpress agent cost at 1,000 conversations a month?

A hypothetical support agent handles 1,000 conversations a month on web chat and WhatsApp, prices billed yearly, Meta fees excluded.

OptionPlanExtra conversationsMonthly total
Plus$150 for 2509 packs of 100 × $65 = $585 (packs are added at 95% of quota, so you end with 1,150)$735
Team$750 for 1,500None$750
Plus at 1,200 conversations$15011 packs × $65 = $715$865, so Team is cheaper

The crossover sits at roughly 1,000 to 1,100 conversations a month: below it, Plus with packs is cheaper; above it, Team is. Team also brings unlimited seats, routing and team analytics, which can matter more than the price.

What should you ask before signing?

  1. Botpress: how will our real traffic count as conversations, especially anonymous web sessions and conversations that cross a month end?
  2. Botpress: how much AI spend do our chosen models use per conversation, and how often will $10 credit grants trigger?
  3. Voiceflow: what is the plan fee, how many credits does it include, and what does one chat message and one voice minute cost in credits?
  4. Voiceflow: how many editor seats come with the plan, and what do extra seats cost?
  5. Both: who bills WhatsApp or phone usage, and at what rates?
  6. Both: can we export agents, knowledge and conversation history if we leave?

What if you want a ready-made agent instead of a builder?

Builders make sense when your agent needs custom logic, integrations or voice. A small business that only needs WhatsApp and website enquiries answered, leads captured and appointments booked usually does not need to build anything.

ReplyKit, which we make, is a finished agent for that job. You add your website, price lists, PDFs or Q&A, set your hours, and it answers WhatsApp and website chat, books into open slots and flags questions it cannot answer, from $29 a month with AI replies included (plans). It connects to WhatsApp with a QR scan, which is unofficial and not sanctioned by Meta; a number can be restricted, so we cap replies per number and suggest a dedicated one. It has no voice, no API or webhooks and no custom integrations, so for those, Botpress or Voiceflow is the right tool. Comparisons: ReplyKit vs Botpress. Or try ReplyKit free for 7 days.

Frequently asked questions

Is Botpress cheaper than Voiceflow?

We cannot say for certain because Voiceflow does not publish list prices. Botpress is free for 100 conversations a month, then $150 a month billed yearly for 250 and $750 for 1,500. Ask Voiceflow for a quote based on your expected messages and voice minutes, then compare like for like.

Does Voiceflow support WhatsApp?

Voiceflow's company facts page lists web chat, phone and SMS as its channels, with custom interfaces through its API. WhatsApp therefore needs a custom connection or a third-party bridge on Meta's official platform.

Does Botpress support voice agents?

Botpress lists a voice channel on its Enterprise plan, and its pricing FAQ counts 3 minutes of a voice call as one conversation. For voice-first projects on a smaller budget, Voiceflow is the more established option.

What counts as a conversation on Botpress?

Any exchange with at least two messages from the end user in the billing month. A conversation that spans two months counts in both, separate anonymous sessions count separately, and AI-only and human-assisted conversations count the same.

Can I turn off Botpress conversation packs?

No. Botpress adds a pack of 100 conversations automatically at 95% of your quota and says auto-recharge for packs cannot be turned off, because pausing would stop the product. It sends warnings at 75% and 100% of your quota.

Is Botpress or Voiceflow better for beginners?

Botpress is easier to try because it has a free plan and published prices, and its Viber builder works from plain language. Voiceflow suits teams that will invest in design, testing and environments. Both expect someone to build and maintain the agent.

How we know this. We read Botpress's pricing page and WhatsApp integration documentation, and Voiceflow's pricing page, billing documentation and company facts page, on 25 October 2026. Voiceflow does not publish list prices and says third-party figures may be outdated, so we quote none. Botpress's monthly-billing prices are calculated in the browser and were not in the page we read, so we quote yearly prices. The 1,000-conversation bill is hypothetical. We build ReplyKit, a finished agent rather than a builder; for custom logic, voice or integrations, Botpress or Voiceflow is the better choice. About ReplyKit.
