Voiceflow alternatives: free, open-source, chat and voice options compared

Voiceflow has moved toward enterprise customer experience teams, and its pricing page now asks businesses to request a quote. If you are a smaller team, an agency or a business owner, this guide splits the alternatives by what you are building, chat or voice, and gives prices you can actually see.

Quick answer

For chat agents, the main Voiceflow alternatives are Botpress (free for 100 conversations a month), Landbot (no-code flows) and Chatbase (document-trained answers). For voice, Vapi and Retell AI charge by the minute, roughly $0.07 to $0.31 a minute on Retell. For free self-hosting, Dify's Community edition. For WhatsApp enquiries and bookings, ReplyKit.

Why is Voiceflow's price no longer on its pricing page?

Because Voiceflow now sells mainly to customer experience teams. When we checked in October 2026, its pricing page showed two offers with no plan prices: one for agencies and partners, with a free trial and usage-based billing, and one for businesses, with "Request pricing" and a demo.

What each offer listed:

For agencies and partners

Free trial with no credit card, usage-based billing, multi-client workspaces, white-labeling and client handoff, and access to the major model providers.

For businesses

Pricing on request, implementation support (self-serve or fully managed), voice and chat deployment, observability and analytics, and team roles and permissions.

Voiceflow's home page describes it as an AI agent platform for CX teams, supporting customers across web, app, WhatsApp, SMS and voice. That is a capable product, with strong design collaboration and analytics. But for a small team that wants to know the monthly cost before a sales call, it has become harder to evaluate. That, more than features, is why people search for alternatives. Our earlier ReplyKit vs Voiceflow page covers the head-to-head.

If you still want to evaluate Voiceflow, go into the sales call with these questions written down:

The same questions work for any vendor that quotes privately. Compare the answers with the published prices below.

Chat-first or voice-first: pick your branch before you pick a tool

Voiceflow did both chat and voice, which is why alternatives lists often mix tools that do very different jobs. Decide which you need first.

Voiceflow alternatives for chat agents

Prices checked on each vendor's own page in October 2026. We make ReplyKit, so weigh our view accordingly.

Botpress

Best for: builders who liked Voiceflow's control. Free for 100 conversations a month; Plus is $150 a month billed yearly for 250 conversations and $25 of AI usage; Team is $750. Pros: flexible logic and many integrations, transparent pricing. Cons: needs technical skill. See Botpress alternatives.

Landbot

Best for: visual, structured flows such as lead forms. Free for 100 chats; Starter EUR 40 a month (EUR 32 yearly) with 100 AI chats; your own WhatsApp number from the Professional WA plan. Pros: easiest builder here. Cons: less suited to open questions. See Landbot alternatives.

Chatbase

Best for: an agent that answers from your documents with little design work. Hobby is $40 a month ($32 yearly) for 700 message credits; voice and API access come on Standard at $150 ($120 yearly). Pros: fast, model choice. Cons: no free plan, credit-based billing.

ReplyKit

Best for: small businesses answering WhatsApp and website enquiries and booking appointments. $29, $49 or $99 a month with 1,000 to 20,000 AI replies included. Pros: no design work, booking and leads built in. Cons: no voice, no custom flows, no API.

Voiceflow alternatives for voice agents, with a 1,000-minute cost example

Voice platforms charge by the minute, combining their own fee with the cost of speech recognition, the AI model, the voice and telephony. That makes them easy to start and easy to underestimate.

Vapi

Pay as you go at $0.05 a minute for Vapi hosting, with model and voice providers passed through at cost, and $5 of free credit to start. Optional support packages start at $29 a month. Best for developers who want to choose every component.

Retell AI

Pay as you go from $0.07 to $0.31 a minute depending on the model, voice and add-ons, with $10 of free credit and 20 concurrent calls included. Calls are billed to the second, and Retell lists Twilio telephony for US calls at $0.015 a minute on top. Best for teams that want a simpler all-in rate.

Here is what 1,000 minutes of calls a month costs on each, using the vendors' own published examples:

PlatformHow the vendor prices it1,000 minutes a month
Vapi$50 hosting + transcriber, model and voice at provider cost; Vapi's own exampleAbout $82 to $129
Retell AIRetell's example build at $0.11 a minute (model, voice infrastructure, speech)About $110, plus telephony if you use Twilio
Retell AI, full range$0.07 to $0.31 a minuteAbout $70 to $310

Put that against your call volume. A hypothetical clinic taking 20 calls a day at three minutes each uses about 1,800 minutes in a 30-day month, so roughly double the figures above. And someone still has to design, test and maintain the voice agent. For many small businesses, the cheaper fix for missed calls is getting callers onto a written channel; we compare options in missed-call text back versus a WhatsApp AI agent.

Free and open-source Voiceflow alternatives

If "free" is the priority, you have three realistic routes, each with a catch.

  1. Dify Community edition. Free to self-host, with visual workflows and knowledge retrieval. Its licence is a modified Apache 2.0 that forbids running it as a multi-tenant service or removing its front-end logo without a commercial licence. Its cloud Sandbox is free with 200 message credits.
  2. Rasa Developer Edition. A free licence for up to 1,000 external conversations a month and one bot, usable in production. Rasa Open Source (Apache 2.0) is in maintenance mode.
  3. Botpress Free. Hosted, 100 conversations a month, no server to run.

One project to avoid for new builds: Flowise, which was archived in August 2026 when its team wound down. Open source cuts the platform fee; you still pay for hosting, AI usage and the hours to build and maintain it.

Where ReplyKit fits, and when a voice platform is the better buy

ReplyKit is the alternative for a small business that came to Voiceflow wanting customer messages answered, not a design project. It answers WhatsApp and website chat from your website, PDFs, price lists and Q&A pairs, understands voice notes and photos, captures name, need, budget and timing, and books real open slots with a reminder about 24 hours before. You take over any chat in one click. See the plans.

WhatsApp connects by Quick Connect, scanning a QR code to link your number as a device in about two minutes. It is unofficial, not the WhatsApp Business API, and a number can be restricted. You see one plain notice, and pressing Connect accepts section 3 of our Terms. AI replies are capped per number (30 an hour and 200 a day by default), and we recommend a dedicated number.

Choose Vapi, Retell AI or Chatbase's voice plans if your customers phone rather than message: ReplyKit does not answer phone calls, send SMS or do missed-call text back. Choose Botpress or Dify if you build agents for clients or need custom integrations. If WhatsApp is your front door, try ReplyKit free for 7 days.

Frequently asked questions

Is Voiceflow free?

Voiceflow's pricing page in October 2026 offered a free trial with no credit card for agencies and partners, and asked businesses to request pricing. It no longer listed a free plan or public plan prices.

What is the best free alternative to Voiceflow?

Botpress has a hosted free plan with 100 conversations a month. For self-hosting, Dify's Community edition is free under a modified Apache 2.0 licence, and Rasa's Developer Edition is free for up to 1,000 external conversations a month.

Is there an open-source Voiceflow alternative?

Yes. Dify is the most active open-source option for visual AI workflows, and Rasa Open Source is Apache 2.0 but in maintenance mode. Flowise was archived in August 2026, so it is not a good choice for new projects.

What is a good Voiceflow alternative for voice agents?

Vapi and Retell AI are built for phone agents and bill by the minute. Vapi charges $0.05 a minute for hosting plus provider costs; Retell lists $0.07 to $0.31 a minute all in, depending on the components you choose.

How much does an AI voice agent cost per minute?

Using the vendors' own examples, roughly $0.08 to $0.13 a minute on Vapi and about $0.11 a minute on Retell AI for a typical setup, with a wider range depending on the model and voice.

Can ReplyKit replace Voiceflow?

For WhatsApp and website chat at a small business, often yes, without any flow design. For voice agents, custom integrations or building for clients, no; a platform such as Botpress, Vapi or Retell AI fits better.

How we know this. We checked the pricing pages of Voiceflow, Botpress, Landbot, Chatbase, Vapi, Retell AI, Dify and Rasa, Voiceflow's home page, the Flowise sunset notice and the Dify and Rasa licences on 17 October 2026. The voice cost table uses the vendors' own published examples; your cost depends on the model, voice and telephony you choose. ReplyKit figures come from our product as it runs today. We make ReplyKit, so weigh our view accordingly; it does not handle phone calls, so a voice platform is the better choice if your customers call. About ReplyKit.
