The point is recovery. Someone who calls and gets voicemail often calls the next business on the list instead. A text within seconds gives them a reason to stay. It does not answer the call; it turns a missed call into a text conversation that someone still has to handle.

How does missed call text back work?

Your calls run through a cloud phone system. When a call rings past a set time without an answer, the system marks it missed and sends an SMS from your business number to the caller's number.

1. The call reaches a cloud phone number. Either your business number lives on a VoIP or cloud phone service, or you forward unanswered calls from your mobile or landline to one. Check your carrier's instructions for conditional forwarding.
2. The ring timeout passes. HighLevel's help center says 10 to 20 seconds is typically recommended. Longer delays the text; shorter can cut off callers you would have answered.
3. The system sends the text. It goes from an SMS-capable number. In HighLevel, if the number the customer called cannot send SMS, the text may come from a different number in your account.
4. The customer replies by SMS. The reply lands in the tool's inbox, where you or your team carry on, or a workflow sends further automated messages.

In the US and Canada there is one more step: business texting to mobile carriers requires registration. Quo's pricing page, for example, says messaging requires registering your business with The Campaign Registry, and HighLevel's help center mentions A2P 10DLC or toll-free verification for an SMS-eligible number. Other countries have their own sender rules.

What does missed call text back software cost?

• Someone still has to reply. The text opens a conversation. If nobody answers the SMS for two hours, the lead is lost just more slowly.
• It fires on every missed call. HighLevel notes that repeat calls in a short window each trigger a text unless you add a wait step or filter.
• The sender number can differ. If the text comes from a number the caller does not recognize, it can look like spam.

When is a WhatsApp AI agent the better fix?

When your customers already message rather than call. If most enquiries arrive as WhatsApp messages, the missed opportunity is an unanswered chat, not an unanswered call, and a text-back tool never sees it.

Yes, and for businesses that get both calls and messages it is often the best setup. The two cover different doors.
