Landbot alternatives: seven chatbot builders compared, and when to drop flows for AI
Landbot made building chat flows easy, but WhatsApp, AI chats and extra seats each push the bill up. This guide is for anyone using or pricing Landbot who wants something cheaper, simpler or better matched to how customers actually ask questions. You get verified prices, a decision on flows versus AI, and a rewrite you can copy.
Quick answer
Strong Landbot alternatives are Typebot (a cheaper flow builder you can also self-host), Chatfuel (WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook automation from $18 a month billed yearly), Tidio (website chat with flows), and Botpress or Voiceflow for technical teams. If customers ask open questions on WhatsApp and you take bookings, an AI agent such as ReplyKit replaces the flows altogether.
Landbot's plans and where the costs climb
Landbot is free for 100 chats a month, then from EUR 40 a month (EUR 32 billed yearly). Using your own WhatsApp number starts at about EUR 160 a month on the Professional WA plan, before Meta's fees.
| Landbot plan | Price | Chats a month | AI chats a month | Seats | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | EUR 0 | 100 | None | 1 | Test number only |
| Starter | EUR 40 monthly, EUR 32 yearly | 500 | 100 | 2 | No own number |
| Professional | EUR 100 monthly, EUR 80 yearly | 2,500 | 300 | 3 | Add-on, EUR 100 a month |
| Professional WA | EUR 160 (as shown in the plan table) | 2,500 | 500 | 3 | One number included |
| Business | From EUR 400 | Custom | Custom | From 5 | One number included |
The costs that climb, from Landbot's page in October 2026:
- Overage: EUR 0.05 per extra chat and EUR 0.10 per extra AI chat.
- Seats: EUR 25 a month for each extra seat.
- WhatsApp messages: on Professional WA, Meta's fee plus EUR 0.05 per marketing, utility or authentication message; service messages are free up to 1,000, then at Meta's fee.
Landbot is genuinely good at what it was built for: visual, branded flows such as lead forms, quizzes and structured funnels, with a 14-day trial on paid plans. Our ReplyKit vs Landbot comparison covers the head-to-head.
Flow builder or AI agent: which do you actually need?
A flow builder is the right tool when you control the questions; an AI agent is the right tool when customers do. That one test settles most choices.
Keep a flow builder if
Your chat is a form in disguise: a quiz, an eligibility check, a lead form with fixed steps, a survey. Every path is known, and you want the exact wording and buttons on each step.
Move to an AI agent if
Customers type their own questions ("do you do braces for adults, how much, can I come Saturday?"), send voice notes, or ask things your buttons never covered. Flows force them down paths; an AI answers what they asked.
Most small businesses on WhatsApp sit in the second group. Our explainer on chatbots versus AI agents goes deeper, and no-code AI agent builders covers the middle ground.
Seven Landbot alternatives with prices
Checked on each vendor's own pricing page in October 2026. We make ReplyKit, so weigh our view accordingly.
| Tool | Type | Entry price | Good fit for | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Typebot | Flow builder | Free 200 chats; Starter $39, Pro $89 | On Pro | Landbot-style flows for less |
| Chatfuel | Flow and AI automation | Business $18 a month yearly plus $20 AI credits | Yes, with campaigns | WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook marketing |
| Tidio | Live chat with flows | Free; Flows add-on from $24.17 | Listed on all plans | Online stores |
| Botpress | Developer platform | Free 100 conversations; Plus $150 yearly | Via integration | Teams with a developer |
| Voiceflow | Agent platform for CX teams | Not published; free trial | Listed as a channel | Larger CX teams, voice and chat |
| Chatbase | AI answer bot | Hobby $40 monthly, $32 yearly | Yes | Answers from documents, no flows |
| ReplyKit | AI agent with booking | $29 a month | Yes, by unofficial QR pairing | WhatsApp enquiries and bookings |
Typebot
The closest like-for-like swap. Typebot's builder works much like Landbot's, with a free plan for 200 chats a month, Starter at $39 for 2,000 chats and two seats, and Pro at $89 for 10,000 chats, five seats and WhatsApp. Extra chats on Starter are $10 per 500. Cons: WhatsApp only on Pro, and AI is something you wire in yourself.
Chatfuel
Built for Meta channels. The Business plan is $18 a month billed yearly with $20 a month of AI credits, and covers lead qualification, comment auto-replies, bulk WhatsApp campaigns and meeting booking. Cons: Chatfuel says usage limits apply without listing conversation allowances on the page, and its strength is marketing automation rather than answering detailed service questions. More in Chatfuel alternatives.
Tidio
For website chat with simple automations. The free plan reaches 100 visitors with Flows; the Flows add-on starts at $24.17 a month for 2,000 visitors, and the Lyro AI agent is a separate add-on. Cons: two add-ons to buy if you want flows and AI.
Botpress
For teams that outgrew no-code. Free for 100 conversations a month; Plus is $150 a month billed yearly with 250 conversations and $25 of AI usage. Cons: you are now building software. Our Botpress alternatives page explains when that is worth it.
Voiceflow
Now positioned as an AI agent platform for customer experience teams across web, app, WhatsApp, SMS and voice. Its pricing page no longer lists plan prices: businesses request pricing and agencies get a free trial with usage-based billing. Cons: hard to budget for a small business. See Voiceflow alternatives.
Chatbase
No flows at all: you add documents and it answers. Hobby is $40 a month ($32 yearly) for 700 message credits, with a 7-day trial and no free plan. Cons: no booking or lead pipeline built in.
ReplyKit
An AI agent for WhatsApp and website chat that answers from your content, captures name, need, budget and timing, and books real slots. $29, $49 or $99 a month with 1,000, 5,000 or 20,000 AI replies. Fit and limits below.
Copy-paste: turning a Landbot flow into AI instructions
If you move from flows to an AI agent, you do not rebuild the flow. You describe the goal, the facts and the rules in plain words. Here is a typical Landbot lead flow for a hypothetical dental clinic, and the instructions that replace it.
You answer messages for Bright Smile Dental, a family dental clinic. Be warm, short and clear. Reply in the customer's language.
Goal: help people book the right appointment. Answer their question first, then offer to book.
Before booking, find out naturally: their name, what they need (check-up, cleaning, braces, pain), and when they would like to come. If they mention pain or swelling, offer the earliest slot.
Prices: only quote prices from the price list in your knowledge. If a treatment is not listed, say the dentist will confirm after an assessment.
Never give medical advice beyond what is in your knowledge. If someone describes an emergency, tell them to call the clinic and flag the chat for a person.
If you do not know the answer, say so and let them know a team member will reply.
The "Something else" dead end disappears, because the agent answers whatever was asked from your knowledge, and escalates what it cannot. For more on writing these, see how to write instructions for a chat assistant.
Is there a free or open-source Landbot alternative?
Yes. Typebot's free plan gives 200 chats a month, and its source code is on GitHub so you can self-host it. Note the licence: Typebot uses the Functional Source License (FSL 1.1, converting to Apache 2.0 later), which allows self-hosting for your own use but restricts offering it as a competing service. Botpress also has a free plan with 100 conversations a month.
Free covers the builder, not the running costs. Self-hosting means a server, updates and your own AI provider bill, and WhatsApp on the official API still carries Meta's charges.
Where ReplyKit fits for Landbot users, and where it does not
ReplyKit fits when your Landbot flows exist mainly to answer questions and book appointments on WhatsApp and your website. Instead of flows, you give it your website URL, PDFs, price lists and Q&A pairs; it answers only from that, escalates what it cannot answer, and lists unanswered questions so you teach the answer once. It books real open slots with double-booking protection and sends a reminder about 24 hours before. Try it on your own content in about 15 minutes.
WhatsApp connects with Quick Connect: you scan a QR code and your number is linked as a device in about two minutes. That is unofficial, not the WhatsApp Business API, and Meta can restrict a number used this way. You see one plain notice, and pressing Connect accepts section 3 of our Terms. We limit AI replies per number (30 an hour and 200 a day by default) and recommend a dedicated number. No Meta fees apply because it is not the API.
Keep Landbot, or choose Typebot or Chatfuel, if you need pixel-perfect scripted flows, quizzes or forms, Instagram or Messenger, WhatsApp broadcast campaigns, or webhooks into other systems. ReplyKit does none of those; leads export by CSV. If you want to compare costs directly, see our pricing.
Frequently asked questions
Is Landbot free?
Landbot has a free plan with 100 chats a month, one seat and a WhatsApp test number only, with no AI chats included. Paid plans start at EUR 40 a month, or EUR 32 billed yearly.
What is the best free Landbot alternative?
Typebot is the closest free alternative, with 200 chats a month on its free plan and source code you can self-host under the Functional Source License. Botpress is free for 100 conversations a month if you have a developer.
How much does Landbot cost for WhatsApp?
Using your own WhatsApp number starts on the Professional WA plan, shown at EUR 160 in Landbot's plan table, or as a EUR 100 a month add-on to Professional. Meta's fees apply on top, plus EUR 0.05 per marketing, utility or authentication message.
Should I use a flow builder or an AI chatbot?
Use a flow builder when you control the questions, such as a quiz or a lead form. Use an AI agent when customers ask their own questions in their own words, which is most WhatsApp traffic for service businesses.
Is Typebot open source?
Its source code is public on GitHub under the Functional Source License 1.1, which converts to Apache 2.0 after a period. You can self-host it for your own use, but the licence restricts using it to offer a competing product.
Can I move my Landbot flows to another tool?
There is no standard import between flow builders, so plan to rebuild. If you move to an AI agent, you replace the flow with written instructions and your knowledge, which is usually faster than rebuilding every branch.
