Quick answer

A no-code AI agent builder lets you assemble a chatbot or agent with visual blocks instead of code: you add knowledge, design the conversation and connect channels. It suits unusual workflows and people who enjoy building. For common jobs such as answering customers and booking appointments, a ready-made agent is usually faster and cheaper once you count your own setup and maintenance time.

What is a no-code AI agent builder?

A no-code AI agent builder is a platform where you create an AI chatbot or agent by dragging blocks, writing instructions in plain language and uploading documents, without programming. You decide what the agent knows, what it says, which tools it can use and where it lives (website, WhatsApp, Slack, phone).

They come in roughly three styles:

"No code" does not mean "no work". It means the work is configuration and testing instead of programming. That distinction drives the rest of this guide.

What does a no-code builder give you, and what do you still have to build?

A builder gives you the parts. For a customer-facing agent you still assemble and maintain the business logic yourself. Here is the checklist we would use if we were building a WhatsApp booking agent from scratch on a general builder.

PieceUsually provided by the builderUsually yours to build or connect
AI model and instructionsYesWriting and testing the instructions
Knowledge from documents or a websiteYes, on mostKeeping it up to date
Website chat widgetYes, on mostStyling and placement
WhatsApp connectionSometimes, via the official API at extra costMeta business verification, a provider account, message templates
Booking into real slotsRarely built inCalendar connection, slot logic, double-booking checks, reminders
Human takeover inboxVaries; sometimes a paid add-onNotifications and who answers
Lead capture and scoringVariables and formsThe scoring rules and where leads go

If you get stuck on the booking row, our explainer on how an agent avoids double-booking shows what that logic has to do. For building on a raw AI model with code instead, see buying versus building on an LLM API.

A note on custom GPTs: OpenAI's help centre says creating and publishing GPTs is not available on personal ChatGPT plans, only in Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces. They are also built for use inside ChatGPT, not for answering your customers on WhatsApp.

We have deeper head-to-heads for some of these: ReplyKit vs Botpress, ReplyKit vs Voiceflow and ReplyKit vs Landbot.

Is there a free no-code AI agent builder?

Yes, several have free tiers that are fine for learning and testing, but few are enough to run a real business inbox. Watch for which part is free: the builder, the AI, or the channel.

Two costs free tiers do not cover. AI usage, when you bring your own AI key, is billed by the AI provider. And WhatsApp through the official API is billed by Meta: since 1 October 2026, even normal replies inside the 24-hour window are charged after the first 1,000 service messages per number each month, at rates that vary by country (Meta's pricing page). For a free route that suits WhatsApp specifically, see free WhatsApp chatbot options.

What does a no-code AI agent cost at 500 conversations a month?

Take a hypothetical tuition centre with 500 customer conversations a month, about 5 AI replies each (2,500 replies), half on WhatsApp and half on the website. List prices only, checked October 2026; your numbers will differ.

OptionWorkingSoftware per monthAlso budget for
Botpress Plus250 conversations included, 250 more as three packs of 100 at $65$384AI usage beyond the $25 included; Meta fees on WhatsApp
Landbot Professional WAWhatsApp plan with 2,500 chats and 500 AI chats included$220Meta fees; your build and upkeep time
Landbot Starter (website only)500 chats, 100 AI chats included, 400 more at $0.10$85No WhatsApp on this plan
ReplyKit Growth2,500 replies fits the 5,000 allowance; WhatsApp and website included$49Nothing from Meta; see the trade-off below

The bigger cost is usually time. Say a first build takes 15 to 30 hours for someone new to the tool (design, knowledge, channel setup, booking logic, testing), plus an hour or two a week for upkeep. That is our estimate from building agents, not a vendor figure. Price your own hours honestly before deciding.

Should you build with a no-code builder or buy a ready-made agent?

Build when your process is unusual or you enjoy the work; buy when the job is common and you would rather spend the time on customers.

QuestionIf yes, lean towards
Is your workflow unusual (multi-step quotes, custom forms, internal approvals)?Build
Do you need the agent to act across several other apps?Build, on an automation platform
Are you an agency building for many clients?Build; see starting a chatbot agency
Is the job answering customers and booking appointments?Buy

Do you need it live this week?Buy
Do you need the official WhatsApp API and broadcasts?Buy from an official API provider, or build on one

Where ReplyKit fits: the ready-made option

We make ReplyKit, so weigh this accordingly. ReplyKit is a ready-made AI agent for WhatsApp and website chat, not a builder. The pieces in the "yours to build" column come already done: knowledge from your website, PDFs, price lists and Q&A; a website assistant added with one line of code; booking into real open slots with double-booking protection and a reminder the day before; lead scoring; and a shared inbox where you take over any chat in one click. Setup takes about 15 minutes with no developers. Plans are $29, $49 and $99 a month (see pricing).

It is the wrong choice if you need custom multi-step logic, connections to other apps (it has no Zapier, webhooks or integrations, only CSV export), Instagram or Messenger, or the official WhatsApp API. WhatsApp connects through Quick Connect, an unofficial QR pairing that Meta does not sanction, which is why there are no Meta fees; read whether WhatsApp can ban your number before choosing. Before pairing you see one plain notice, and pressing Connect is your acceptance of section 3 of our terms. The quickest way to compare is to build a test bot in a builder and start a ReplyKit trial the same afternoon: 7 days, no card.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best no-code AI agent builder?

It depends on the job. Botpress and Voiceflow suit customer-facing agents with custom logic, Zapier Agents and n8n suit agents that act across other apps, and Landbot suits visual lead flows. For answering customers and booking on WhatsApp, a ready-made agent is often simpler.

Can I build an AI agent for free?

You can build and test one for free on tiers from Botpress, Landbot, Zapier Agents, Make or self-hosted n8n. Running it for real customers usually costs money once you add AI usage, more conversations, or WhatsApp through the official API.

Do I need coding skills to build an AI agent?

Not with a no-code builder. You still need time to write instructions, organise your knowledge, connect channels and test awkward conversations. Booking logic and WhatsApp setup are the parts people most often underestimate.

Is Voiceflow free?

Voiceflow's pricing page in October 2026 offers a free trial for agencies and asks businesses to request pricing; public plan prices are no longer listed. Check the page for the current options.

Can a no-code AI agent work on WhatsApp?

Yes, many builders connect to WhatsApp, usually through the official WhatsApp Business Platform. That means Meta business setup and Meta's per-message charges, including on service replies beyond 1,000 a month per number since October 2026.

Should I build or buy an AI agent?

Build if your workflow is unusual, you need many app connections, or you are an agency. Buy if the job is common, such as answering customers and booking, and nobody will maintain a custom build every week.

How we know this. We build a ready-made agent, and the build checklist reflects the pieces we had to make ourselves. Builder prices and free tiers were checked on each vendor's own pricing page in October 2026, OpenAI's GPT rules on its help centre, and Meta's pricing on its developer page. The 15 to 30 hour build estimate is our own judgement, not a vendor figure. We make ReplyKit, so weigh our view accordingly. If your workflow is unusual or needs many app connections, a builder is the better choice. About ReplyKit.
