ReplyKit vs Gupshup: a ready-made AI agent for one business, or a conversation platform for building at scale?

Gupshup and ReplyKit both put AI on WhatsApp, but they are different kinds of product. Gupshup is an enterprise conversation platform (a CPaaS) with WhatsApp, SMS, RCS and Instagram, APIs and AI agents for large brands. ReplyKit is a finished AI agent for a small business's WhatsApp and website. This page explains the gap fairly, with Gupshup's published prices.

Quick answer

Choose Gupshup if you have developers or an enterprise budget and need the official WhatsApp API at scale, other channels such as SMS and RCS, and campaigns; its self-serve fee is $0.001 per message plus Meta's charges. Choose ReplyKit if you want a ready AI agent that answers and books for a small business, at $29 to $99 a month, accepting an unofficial connection.

Is Gupshup a chatbot or a messaging platform?

Gupshup is a messaging platform first. It describes itself as a conversational AI platform for marketing, commerce and support, and says it handles about 120 billion messages a year for more than 50,000 customers, with over 20 years in the business (its own figures). It sells the WhatsApp Business API, SMS, RCS and Instagram messaging, campaign tools, and AI products including AI agents, an AI co-pilot for human agents, its own fine-tuned ACE LLM model, and an "Avatar Agent" for websites.

ReplyKit is a much smaller, narrower product: an AI agent that answers WhatsApp and website chat for a small business from its own content, qualifies leads, books appointments and hands over to a person. It has no SMS, no RCS, no Instagram and no campaigns. We make ReplyKit, so weigh our view accordingly; this page tries to show where each one genuinely wins.

What does Gupshup charge for WhatsApp messages?

On its self-serve WhatsApp API plan, Gupshup charges a flat $0.001 per message on top of Meta's per-message fees, which it bills at Meta's rates. Its enterprise features and pricing are handled through sales.

Gupshup self-serve fee (checked October 2026)Price
Template message, outgoing text$0.0010
Session message, outgoing and incoming text$0.0010
Media above 64KBFree
Voice calls, user or business initiated$0.0001 per second
Meta's fees (marketing, utility, authentication, service after 1,000 free)Passed through at Meta's rate for the customer's country

Two things to notice. Gupshup's fee applies to incoming session messages too, so a customer's message to you costs $0.001 as well as your reply. And the price covers messaging, not a finished AI agent: on self-serve you get the API and tools, and you or a developer build the conversation logic, or you talk to Gupshup's sales team about its AI agents.

What does it cost to answer 2,500 enquiries a month on each?

Take a hypothetical clinic in India that gets 2,500 customer messages a month, sends 2,500 replies and 400 appointment reminders. Meta's India rates from 1 October 2026 are $0.0014 per utility or service message, with 1,000 free service messages per number each month.

Cost lineGupshup self-serveReplyKit Growth
Platform fee(2,500 in + 2,500 out + 400 templates) x $0.001 = $5.40$49 flat
Meta charges1,500 replies + 400 reminders x $0.0014 = $2.66None

So Gupshup's messaging is cheaper, by a lot. Whether the whole thing is cheaper depends on who builds and runs the agent. A company with a developer who can wire an AI model to the API, handle bookings and maintain it will spend less per month on Gupshup. A clinic owner without a developer will spend far more in time or in an agency's fees. Our ReplyKit vs Twilio page walks through the same build-or-buy decision in more detail.

Both products also reach your website. Gupshup's newest offer is an "Avatar Agent", an AI assistant with a talking face that it says goes live with one line of code. ReplyKit's website assistant is plainer: a chat widget, added with one line of code, with its own instructions and knowledge, drawing on the same reply allowance as WhatsApp. If a branded avatar matters to you, Gupshup has something we do not. If you want the website and WhatsApp to give the same answers from the same knowledge with nothing extra to configure, ReplyKit is simpler. Our guide to website chat versus a WhatsApp agent covers when you need both.

When is Gupshup the stronger choice?

When is ReplyKit the stronger choice?

The trade-off, stated plainly: Quick Connect is an unofficial QR pairing, not the API, and a number can be restricted. You see one plain notice before connecting; pressing Connect accepts section 3 of our Terms. We cap replies (by default 30 an hour and 200 a day, with a warm-up) and recommend a dedicated number.

What should you ask before choosing either?

  1. Do we send, or do we answer? Campaigns, OTPs and order updates need the official API. Answering inbound questions does not.
  2. Who will build and maintain the AI? If the answer is "nobody", a platform priced per message is only the start of the cost.
  3. What is our real monthly volume? Count incoming and outgoing messages, because Gupshup's fee applies to both.
  4. How much risk can our number take? If losing the number for a week would hurt badly, use the API.
  5. Do we need other channels? SMS, RCS or Instagram point to a CPaaS. WhatsApp and website only point to an agent like ReplyKit.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Gupshup charge for WhatsApp?

On its self-serve plan, as checked in October 2026, Gupshup charges $0.001 per message for template and session messages, including incoming session messages, plus Meta's per-message fees at Meta's rates. Enterprise features and pricing are quoted by its sales team.

Is Gupshup an official WhatsApp Business Solution Provider?

Gupshup provides access to the official WhatsApp Business API, which is the route sanctioned by Meta. ReplyKit does not use the API; it connects by unofficial QR pairing.

Does Gupshup have AI agents?

Yes. Gupshup sells AI agents, an AI co-pilot for human agents and its own fine-tuned ACE LLM model, mainly to larger organizations. Pricing for these is not published on its self-serve page.

Is Gupshup good for small businesses?

It can be, if you have a developer to build on the API, because the per-message fee is very low. Without technical help, a ready-made agent is usually faster and cheaper overall.

Can ReplyKit send SMS or RCS like Gupshup?

No. ReplyKit works on WhatsApp and website chat only, and it replies to people who message you rather than sending campaigns. For SMS, RCS or broadcasts, a platform like Gupshup is the right choice.

Which is cheaper, Gupshup or ReplyKit?

Gupshup's messaging is cheaper: a clinic answering 2,500 enquiries might pay about $8 a month in Gupshup and Meta fees. But that excludes building and running the AI, booking and inbox, which ReplyKit includes for $49 a month.

How we know this. On 17 October 2026 we loaded Gupshup's self-serve WhatsApp pricing page and its homepage, and used Meta's USD rate card effective 1 October 2026 for the worked month. Gupshup's scale figures are its own claims. We have not built on Gupshup ourselves, so the build-cost side is described in general terms rather than measured. We make ReplyKit, so weigh our view accordingly; for scale, multiple channels, campaigns or a developer-led build, Gupshup is the better choice. About ReplyKit.
