Quick answer

HighLevel connects WhatsApp through the official WhatsApp Business API, set up inside a sub-account via its LeadConnector app. The add-on costs US$10 a month per sub-account, billed to the agency, plus Meta's per-message fees and a 5% payment processing fee. You can connect an existing WhatsApp Business app number (coexistence), a new number, or migrate from another provider. Conversation AI can reply and book on WhatsApp.

How does WhatsApp work inside HighLevel?

HighLevel connects each sub-account to the official WhatsApp Business API. WhatsApp chats then appear in the same conversations inbox as SMS, email and social messages, and can be used in workflows and by Conversation AI.

A few terms first, because HighLevel's help articles use them throughout:

Because it is the official API, Meta's rules apply: free-form replies within 24 hours of the customer's last message, approved templates outside that window, and per-message pricing. Our app vs platform explainer covers the background, and our ReplyKit vs GoHighLevel page compares HighLevel with a focused WhatsApp agent.

How much does the GoHighLevel WhatsApp integration cost?

US$10 a month per WhatsApp-enabled sub-account, charged to the agency, plus Meta's per-message fees. HighLevel adds a 5% payment processing fee to message charges and sets a default 1.05x multiplier to cover it.

Payment processing5% on top of message rates; default multiplier 1.05xBuilt into the rebilled price
Agency markupOptional, 1x to 10x on messaging and calling usageThe client, if the agency chooses

Service repliesFirst 1,000 a month per phone number free, then chargedSince 1 October 2026

From HighLevel's WhatsApp pricing, billing and rebilling guide and its pricing page, checked October 2026, and Meta's pricing documentation. Note the 1,000 free service messages are counted per phone number, not per sub-account.

One detail to check. HighLevel's guide says free entry point conversations, which start from a click-to-WhatsApp ad, stay free for 72 hours. Meta's own pricing information describes that window as one that may remain open for up to 7 days. If you run click-to-WhatsApp ads, confirm the current window with both before budgeting.

What does a typical month cost? A worked example

For a small business sub-account, the US$10 add-on is often the smaller part of the bill. Marketing templates and, since October 2026, service replies above 1,000 a month are what grow.

Say an agency runs a med spa client in the US. In one month the spa receives 2,000 WhatsApp messages, sends 1,500 replies inside the 24-hour window, 300 appointment reminder templates, and a 500-person promotion to opted-in clients.

We have left the service and utility lines as "varies" because rates differ by market and Meta changed them on 1 October 2026; read the current figures in HighLevel's rate table. On top of this sits the HighLevel plan itself, from US$97 a month for Starter, and any AI plan the agency uses.

How do you connect WhatsApp to GoHighLevel?

In the sub-account, go to Settings, then WhatsApp, and choose one of three methods: connect your existing WhatsApp Business app (coexistence), connect a new number, or migrate from another provider.

These are the steps for coexistence, as HighLevel's help center describes them, which is the method most small businesses ask about:

  1. Update the WhatsApp Business app on the phone to the latest version, and have your Facebook login ready.
  2. Open Settings, then WhatsApp in the sub-account and start the connection.
  3. Continue the signup and connect to LeadConnector, selecting your Meta business assets.
  4. Choose to connect a WhatsApp Business app and enter the number.
  5. Verify your account details.
  6. Import contacts and chat history by following the prompt on your phone; up to six months of history can sync.
  7. Confirm, click Finish and send a test message from the CRM.

For a new number, you instead create or select a WhatsApp Business account through Facebook, enter the number, verify it with a one-time code and select your business assets. For migration from another provider, you add the number, verify it by code and confirm. Prerequisites include a Meta business portfolio and a WhatsApp Business account, which are selected during signup. If you are new to this, our guide on getting WhatsApp Business API access explains the Meta side.

What are the limits of the GoHighLevel WhatsApp integration?

Most limits come from Meta's API rules and from coexistence. Know these before you connect a number your customers already use.

Does GoHighLevel have a WhatsApp chatbot?

Yes. HighLevel's Conversation AI lists WhatsApp among its supported channels, alongside SMS, email, Facebook, Instagram and website chat, and it can book appointments when calendars and bot goals are set up.

Conversation AI has three modes: Off; Suggestive, which drafts replies for a person to send; and Autopilot, which replies on its own based on its training and instructions. HighLevel's help center says it can be trained on knowledge bases, documents, URLs and FAQs, and can schedule, reschedule and cancel appointments based on your calendar setup. A changelog entry notes it does not currently collect payments during booking.

On cost, HighLevel's pricing page lists AI Employee plans at US$50 or US$97 a month per sub-account, while its WhatsApp comparison article lists AI-powered conversations as included with the US$10 add-on. Ask HighLevel which applies to the replies you want automated.

Is there a GoHighLevel WhatsApp API?

Under the hood, HighLevel uses Meta's official WhatsApp Business API, so you do not need a separate provider. HighLevel also has its own API, listed as basic on Unlimited and advanced on Agency Pro, for developers who want to work with HighLevel data.

If you are comparing direct API providers instead, our Twilio WhatsApp alternatives guide covers Meta's Cloud API, Gupshup, 360dialog and others.

When does a separate WhatsApp AI agent make sense?

If you already run your business or agency on HighLevel, use its built-in WhatsApp; it keeps everything in one CRM. A separate agent makes sense when HighLevel is more platform than you need, or when you want a different number answered by a focused AI.

We make ReplyKit, so weigh our view accordingly. ReplyKit is an AI agent that answers WhatsApp and website chat from your own website, PDFs and price lists, qualifies leads and books appointments into real open slots, for US$29, US$49 or US$99 a month with AI replies included and no Meta fees. See the plans. It fits:

It is not the official API. ReplyKit connects through Quick Connect, which pairs a WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app number by QR code in about two minutes. That is unofficial and not sanctioned by Meta, and a number can be restricted; we cap AI replies at 30 an hour and 200 a day per number by default and recommend a dedicated number. Do not pair a number that is already on HighLevel's API.

When ReplyKit is the wrong choice. If you need templates, broadcasts, campaigns, email and SMS, white labelling, or a live sync into HighLevel, stay on HighLevel's integration. ReplyKit has no HighLevel integration, Zapier or webhooks. If a focused agent is what you need, the 7-day free trial needs no card.

How we know this. We read HighLevel's pricing page and its help center articles on WhatsApp pricing and rebilling, sub-account setup, coexistence, platform comparison and Conversation AI in October 2026, alongside Meta's pricing documentation. Where HighLevel's own pages disagree, on the free entry point window and on whether AI replies need an AI Employee plan, we say so. We make ReplyKit, so weigh our view accordingly. If you already run on HighLevel, its built-in WhatsApp is usually the right choice. About ReplyKit.
