Zendesk vs HubSpot Service Hub: specialist help desk or support inside your CRM?

This comparison is for businesses deciding where customer support should live: in Zendesk, a dedicated help desk, or in HubSpot, next to the CRM your sales and marketing teams may already use. You get prices, onboarding fees and AI agent charges checked on both sites on 25 October 2026, a first-year cost for a three-person team, and the questions that settle it.

Quick answer

Choose HubSpot Service Hub if your sales and marketing already run on HubSpot and you want support in the same CRM; Professional is $90 to $100 a seat plus a $1,500 one-time onboarding fee, and its Customer Agent costs $0.50 per resolution. Choose Zendesk for a dedicated, deeper help desk: Suite Team is $55 a seat billed yearly, with AI resolutions at $1.50 to $2.00 after a small allowance.

Should support live in your CRM or in a dedicated help desk?

That is the decision underneath "Zendesk vs HubSpot". HubSpot Service Hub puts tickets, chat, a knowledge base and an AI agent on the same customer record your sales and marketing teams use. Zendesk is a specialist help desk that integrates with CRMs, HubSpot included, but keeps support as its own system.

If your company already pays for HubSpot Sales or Marketing Hub and support is handled by a few people, Service Hub usually wins on convenience: one record per customer, one login, one bill. If support is a department with its own processes, SLAs, phone lines and reporting, Zendesk usually wins on depth.

How much do Zendesk and HubSpot Service Hub cost?

HubSpot is cheaper at the bottom and comparable in the middle, but adds a one-time onboarding fee on Professional and Enterprise. Zendesk has no onboarding fee on its self-serve plans.

HubSpot's page shows two prices for Starter and Professional and four billing options, from paying monthly to committing annually; the lower figure is the "best value" option. We quote both so you can match them to your checkout.

How do HubSpot Customer Agent and Zendesk AI agents compare on price?

HubSpot's Customer Agent is $0.50 per resolution. Zendesk's AI agents are $1.50 per automated resolution on a committed volume or $2.00 pay as you go, after the included allowance. Both charge only for resolutions, not for every conversation the AI touches.

Watch the shared credit pool. HubSpot Credits pay for several AI features, not only Customer Agent. If marketing or sales teams use credit-powered agents too, the 3,000 included credits go faster than the support team expects.

Do Zendesk and HubSpot support WhatsApp?

Yes. Both connect WhatsApp through Meta's official platform. HubSpot lists WhatsApp on Service Hub Professional and Enterprise, and its Customer Agent page says the agent works on WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger as well as chat, email and voice. Zendesk lists WhatsApp among social and business messaging channels on Suite plans and notes that additional fees apply.

Underneath both, Meta charges per message. Since 1 October 2026, service replies inside the 24-hour window are charged after the first 1,000 a month per business number, as set out on Meta's pricing page. An AI agent answering WhatsApp generates exactly those service messages. Our HubSpot WhatsApp comparison covers HubSpot's WhatsApp setup in more detail.

What does the first year cost for a three-person team?

A hypothetical support team of three handles 1,000 conversations a month, and the AI agent resolves 300 of them. Zendesk is priced on yearly billing; HubSpot on its lower "best value" Professional price. Meta WhatsApp charges are left out of both.

Same team, AI paid as you go on Zendesk$165 + 285 × $2.00 = $735 a month, $8,820 a year$6,180

At this volume HubSpot is cheaper over a year despite the onboarding fee, because its resolution price is a third of Zendesk's committed rate. With little AI use the picture flips: three Zendesk Suite Team seats cost $1,980 a year against $3,240 plus onboarding on HubSpot Professional. The AI line, again, decides the comparison. Five questions that decide it

  1. Is HubSpot already your CRM? If yes, Service Hub saves integration work and gives support the full sales history. If no, adopting HubSpot just for support is a bigger project than buying Zendesk.
  2. How much phone support do you do? Zendesk Suite includes telephony and IVR on higher plans; HubSpot includes calling minutes but is not a contact center.
  3. How many AI resolutions do you expect? Above a few hundred a month, HubSpot's $0.50 rate is a large saving over Zendesk's $1.50 to $2.00.
  4. Can you absorb the onboarding fee? $1,500 on Professional is meaningful for a small team in year one.
  5. Who will run it? Zendesk rewards a dedicated admin; HubSpot is often run by a marketing or operations generalist.

What if you are too small for either?

Plenty of small businesses read comparisons like this and realise their real problem is simpler: customers message on WhatsApp after hours and nobody answers until morning. A help desk or CRM can solve that, but it is a lot of software for the job.

That narrower job is what we built ReplyKit for. It answers WhatsApp and website chat from your own content, keeps a simple leads list with hot, warm and cold scoring and CSV export, and books appointments into your open slots, for $29, $49 or $99 a month with AI replies included and no seat or onboarding fees (pricing). It connects by QR code, which is unofficial and not sanctioned by Meta; a number can be restricted, so we cap replies per number and recommend a dedicated one. It has no ticketing, no CRM integrations and no phone answering, so a team that needs those should choose Zendesk or HubSpot. Frequently asked questions

Is HubSpot Service Hub cheaper than Zendesk?

It depends on AI use. Seat for seat, Zendesk Suite Team at $55 billed yearly is cheaper than HubSpot Professional at $90 to $100 plus $1,500 onboarding. But HubSpot's Customer Agent costs $0.50 per resolution against Zendesk's $1.50 to $2.00, so with a few hundred AI resolutions a month HubSpot can cost less over a year.

Does HubSpot Service Hub have a free plan?

HubSpot's free tools cover up to 2 users, with live chat carrying HubSpot branding, basic bots and a shared inbox. Help desk features such as the knowledge base and Customer Agent need paid plans, with Customer Agent on Professional and Enterprise.

Can Zendesk and HubSpot be used together?

Yes. Many companies keep HubSpot as the CRM and use Zendesk for support, connected through an integration. You pay for both, but support keeps Zendesk's deeper ticketing while sales keeps HubSpot.

What is a resolution for HubSpot's Customer Agent?

HubSpot counts a resolution when the agent provides support and the conversation is not handed to a human rep for 72 hours. Qualifying a lead can also count. Each resolution costs $0.50, paid from HubSpot Credits.

Does HubSpot charge an onboarding fee?

Yes, on Service Hub Professional and Enterprise. HubSpot's pricing page lists a required one-time onboarding fee of $1,500 for Professional and $3,500 for Enterprise. Starter has no onboarding fee listed.

Which is better for WhatsApp support?

Both connect WhatsApp through Meta's official platform and add Meta's message charges. HubSpot needs Professional or Enterprise and its Customer Agent can reply on WhatsApp; Zendesk needs a Suite plan with additional fees. Choose on the rest of your needs, not WhatsApp alone.

How we know this. We read Zendesk's pricing page and HubSpot's Service Hub pricing page, Customer Agent page and agent ROI calculator on 25 October 2026. HubSpot's pricing page shows two prices per plan without labelling which billing option each belongs to in the text we could read, so we quote both. The three-person team and its AI volume are hypothetical. We build ReplyKit, a WhatsApp and website AI agent that is neither a help desk nor a CRM; for teams that need those, Zendesk or HubSpot is the better choice. About ReplyKit.
