respond.io vs GoHighLevel: a WhatsApp inbox or an all-in-one CRM?

respond.io and GoHighLevel both put WhatsApp in a shared inbox with automation and AI, but they are different kinds of software. GoHighLevel, also called HighLevel, is an all-in-one marketing platform that agencies resell to clients: CRM, funnels, email, SMS, calendars and more. respond.io is a messaging platform that does conversations deeply and leaves the rest to other tools. This page helps you decide which shape you need.

All-in-one platform or specialist inbox?

GoHighLevel replaces several tools at once; respond.io does one job, messaging, in more depth. The right choice depends on what you would otherwise pay for separately.

Subscription prices, checked October 2026

GoHighLevel starts lower at $97 a month, while respond.io's first plan with AI agents is $199. Both add usage charges for WhatsApp.

All three include unlimited users and contacts and a 14-day trial; billing starts automatically when the trial ends, according to HighLevel's pricing page. Phone, SMS and email are billed by usage on top.

Growth$199 (1,000 contacts)$15910, AI agents
Advanced$349 (1,000 contacts)$27910, webhooks and SSO

From respond.io's pricing page, October 2026. respond.io bills extra contacts at $12 per 100 on Growth and offers a 7-day trial with no card. For the full contact-tier grid, see our respond.io pricing guide.

How each one bills WhatsApp

Both use the official WhatsApp Business API and pass on Meta's per-message charges. GoHighLevel adds a fixed monthly fee and a small multiplier; respond.io takes fees from a credit balance.

HighLevel's guide quotes example North America rates of $0.0263 per marketing message and $0.0036 per utility message before its uplift. Since 1 October 2026, Meta charges service replies after the first 1,000 per business number each month, so busy support inboxes now carry a message cost on either platform. Our guide to the GoHighLevel WhatsApp integration walks through setup.

AI Employee versus respond.io AI agents

GoHighLevel sells AI as a separate add-on per sub-account; respond.io includes AI agents in Growth and above.

HighLevel's pricing page lists its AI Employee add-on at $50 or $97 a month per sub-account depending on the AI plan, billed monthly. It can answer conversations, book into calendars and work across the platform's channels. respond.io's AI agents are part of Growth and Advanced under fair use, with included credits and $15 per extra 1,000 credits if you run over.

Either way, the quality of answers depends on what you teach it. Spend the trial loading your real prices, policies and FAQs, then send it the questions your customers actually ask. Our guide to training a chatbot on your own data applies to both.

A five-agent property team, priced

A hypothetical property agency has 5 agents, about 900 people messaging a month on one WhatsApp number, and wants AI to answer listing questions and book viewings. Monthly billing, before Meta's message charges.

LineGoHighLevel Starterrespond.io Growth
Subscription$97$199
WhatsApp add-on$10$0
AIAI Employee, $97 on the higher AI planIncluded
UsersUnlimited10 included
Other usageSMS, email and phone as usedNone
Total before Meta fees$204$199

The totals land close together. What decides it is everything else: GoHighLevel also gives this agency listing pages, email nurture and calendars, while respond.io gives a cleaner WhatsApp inbox with routing built for a team that works mostly in chat. If the agency already pays for a CRM and website, respond.io avoids paying twice.

If you are an agency

GoHighLevel was built for you; respond.io was not. HighLevel's sub-accounts, unlimited users and WhatsApp rebilling with your own markup let you package messaging into a monthly retainer. respond.io can serve clients too, but each client is usually its own workspace and subscription. If you are thinking about starting a messaging agency, read our guide on how to start a chatbot agency before committing to either.

Five things to test in either trial

  1. Connect your real WhatsApp number and send ten messages from a personal phone. Time the first reply.
  2. Load your price list and policies, then ask the AI your three most awkward questions.
  3. Hand a chat from the AI to a colleague and check they see the full history.
  4. Book a test appointment and confirm it lands in the calendar you actually use.
  5. Look at the usage or billing screen after a day and estimate a full month's message fees.

Which to choose

GoHighLevel suits you if

  • You want one login for CRM, funnels, email, SMS and calendars.
  • You are an agency reselling to many clients.
  • You need unlimited users at a fixed price.
  • You have the time, or a consultant, to configure a large platform.

respond.io suits you if

  • WhatsApp conversations drive most of your revenue.
  • You want AI agents included in the plan, not added per account.
  • You already have a CRM and website you are happy with.
  • Your team needs routing, assignment and lifecycle stages in chat.

For owners who only need replies and bookings

We build ReplyKit, so this is our product talking. Some businesses comparing these two only want one thing: every WhatsApp and website enquiry answered in seconds, with bookings made and hot leads flagged. ReplyKit does that for $29, $49 or $99 a month with AI replies included, its own booking with reminders, and a simple hot, warm and cold leads list.

It is not a CRM suite and has no funnels, email, SMS, broadcasts or integrations beyond CSV export. It connects WhatsApp by QR code as a linked device, an unofficial route that Meta does not sanction, so a number can be restricted and a dedicated number is wise. If that trade suits you, start a 7-day free trial; if you need the rest of the stack, GoHighLevel or respond.io is the better fit.

Frequently asked questions

Is GoHighLevel cheaper than respond.io?

At the subscription level, yes: GoHighLevel Starter is $97 a month against $199 for respond.io Growth. Once you add GoHighLevel's $10 WhatsApp add-on and its AI Employee add-on, the totals are often similar, before Meta's message fees on both.

Does GoHighLevel support WhatsApp?

Yes. WhatsApp is an add-on at $10 a month per sub-account on the official API. Message fees follow Meta's rates with a 5% processing uplift, and agencies can mark them up when rebilling clients.

Is respond.io a CRM?

respond.io has contacts, lifecycle stages and assignment, which cover a simple sales pipeline in chat. It has no funnels, website builder or email campaign tool, so many businesses pair it with a separate CRM.

Which is better for agencies?

GoHighLevel. Its sub-accounts, unlimited users and WhatsApp rebilling with your own markup are designed for agencies reselling to clients. respond.io is built for a business running its own messaging.

Do both include AI?

respond.io includes AI agents on Growth and above under fair use. GoHighLevel sells its AI Employee as an add-on per sub-account, listed at $50 or $97 a month depending on the AI plan.

Which is easier to set up?

respond.io is usually quicker for a messaging-only setup because it does less. GoHighLevel takes longer because it covers CRM, funnels, email and calendars, though agencies often provide setup as part of their service.

How we know this. We read HighLevel's pricing page and its WhatsApp pricing and rebilling guide, and respond.io's pricing page, in October 2026. The property team bill is hypothetical and uses only those published numbers; we did not run paid accounts on either platform, and usage charges for SMS, email and phone are left out because they depend on volume. We build ReplyKit, which competes with both for simple WhatsApp enquiry handling. For CRM, funnels, campaigns or agency reselling, GoHighLevel or respond.io is the better choice. About ReplyKit.
