How much does a WhatsApp AI agent cost? Real numbers, the fees people miss, and a simple ROI check
Vendor price pages are designed to make comparison hard: a platform fee here, a per-conversation charge there, an AI add-on somewhere else. This guide puts every cost in one place, shows what a typical small business actually pays, and gives you a one-minute test for whether an agent pays for itself.
Quick answer
A WhatsApp AI agent costs a small business between about $29 and $250 a month all-in. The three components are the platform fee, Meta's per-conversation charges if the tool uses the official API, and AI usage, which some tools bundle and others meter. ReplyKit is $29, $49 or $99 a month flat with AI included; Meta's message fees apply only to reminder and follow-up templates, because inbound replies inside the 24-hour window carry no Meta fee. If one extra booking a month covers the fee, it pays back.
The three parts of the bill
1. Platform fee
What the software vendor charges monthly. Ranges from about $29 for a focused agent to $150 to $300 for omnichannel suites with AI tiers. Watch for per-seat pricing, which multiplies with staff.
2. Meta conversation fees
Tools built on the official WhatsApp Business API pass on Meta's per-message or per-conversation charges, set by country and message category. Customer-initiated service conversations have a free window; business-initiated marketing and utility messages are charged. See Meta's pricing page for current rates. third-party tools like ReplyKit have Meta fees only on templates because they do not use the API.
3. AI usage
Some vendors bundle AI replies into the plan; others sell AI as an add-on or meter it per reply. Ask: how many AI replies are included, what happens when they run out, and what a top-up costs.
Hidden extras
Setup or onboarding fees, charges for additional numbers, "premium" support tiers, and template approval delays that cost you time rather than money.
What ReplyKit costs, exactly
| Plan | Monthly | Includes | Meta fees | AI usage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $29 | 1 number, 1 agent, 1 website assistant, 1,000 AI replies | None | Included |
| Growth | $49 | 3 numbers, 5 agents, 5 website assistants, 5,000 AI replies, follow-up nudges | None | Included |
| Pro | $99 | 15 numbers, unlimited agents and assistants, 20,000 AI replies, priority support | None | Included |
| Reply pack | $10 | 1,000 extra replies, never expire, used after the plan allowance | None | Included |
Annual billing is ten months for the price of twelve. Every first subscription starts with a 7-day free trial that includes 300 replies, with a card on file and nothing charged if you cancel before it ends. Inbound messages, your own human replies and voice-note transcription are not counted. One reply on WhatsApp or on the website widget is one reply.
What a reply costs to serve, and why that matters to you
We measure it: an average ReplyKit reply uses roughly 1,600 tokens of input (your instructions, the relevant knowledge and recent conversation) and about 80 tokens of output, and sometimes a second model call to book or hand over. That works out to a fraction of a cent per reply. We publish this because it explains our pricing: AI replies are cheap enough to bundle, so a vendor that meters them per reply is charging for something that costs them very little. It also explains the caps: 1,000 replies on Starter is a real allowance, not a teaser.
Three worked examples
The one-minute ROI check
- Estimate the value of one new customer. A dental patient, a tenancy commission, a term of tuition.
- Count the enquiries you currently answer late or never. Look at yesterday's WhatsApp.
- Assume the agent converts one extra enquiry a month that you would otherwise have lost. That is conservative; the response-time research suggests the real number is higher.
- If one customer is worth more than the monthly fee, it pays for itself. For most service businesses that is true at $29 by a wide margin.
The cost people forget is time. A receptionist spending an hour a day on repeat WhatsApp questions is 20 hours a month. Even at a modest wage that exceeds any plan on this page.
The cost that is not on the invoice
Some cheaper third-party tools carry a cost that is not on the invoice: they connect as an unofficial linked device, which Meta does not sanction, and numbers on them get restricted. ReplyKit runs on the official platform instead. What still matters on the platform is quality, explained in our guide to whether WhatsApp will ban your number, and we enforce reply limits to reduce it. Price it in: use a dedicated number, not the one your customers have had for ten years.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a WhatsApp AI agent cost per month?
Between about $29 and $250 for a small business, depending on whether AI is bundled, how Meta's message fees are handled, and how many seats or numbers you need. ReplyKit is $29, $49 or $99 flat with AI included; Meta's message fees apply only to reminder and follow-up templates.

The agent pauses and new chats wait in your inbox. Add a $10 pack of 1,000 replies, which never expires, or upgrade. Inbound messages and your own replies are never counted.
Is there a setup fee?
No. Setup takes about 15 minutes and there is a 7-day free trial with 300 replies included.
