Why do businesses look for Tidio alternatives?

Mostly because of how AI is priced. Tidio sells its chat plans by "billable conversations" and sells Lyro AI as a separate subscription per AI conversation, so the bill climbs as the AI does more work.

Here is what Tidio's pricing page showed when we checked in October 2026:

To be fair to Tidio, it does a lot well: live chat, ticketing and rule-based Flows in one inbox, a free plan, quick setup, and a strong fit for online stores. Tidio states its customers average a 75% Lyro resolution rate, which is the vendor's own figure. If those strengths match your business and the AI meter fits your volume, staying may be right. Our ReplyKit vs Tidio comparison goes deeper.

How do the top Tidio alternatives compare?

Eight alternatives, with prices from each vendor's own pricing page checked October 2026, in US dollars. We make ReplyKit, so weigh our view accordingly; we have tried to give every tool its real strengths.

Which Tidio alternative is best for my business?

It depends on whether you need a helpdesk for a team, a free chat box, or an AI that answers and books on its own. Here is each option with honest pros and cons.

1. Intercom Fin: best for support teams

A full helpdesk with Fin, one of the strongest AI agents for support. Seats are $29, $85 or $132 a month, and Fin costs $0.99 per outcome, charged once per conversation it resolves or routes. Fin also runs on top of other helpdesks, with a 50-outcome monthly minimum.

Pros: excellent AI, mature helpdesk, pay only for outcomes. Cons: seats plus outcomes add up fast for a small business. See ReplyKit vs Intercom Fin.

2. Crisp: best for small teams that hate per-seat pricing

Crisp prices by workspace, not per seat: Free for 2 seats, Mini $45 for 4, Essentials $95 for 10, Plus $295 for 20 or more. AI credits come with each paid plan, which Crisp puts at about 90, 450 and 1,350 automated conversations; the AI chatbot proper starts on Essentials.

Pros: predictable team pricing, a real free plan. Cons: small AI allowance on the lower plans. See ReplyKit vs Crisp.

3. tawk.to: best free live chat

Live chat, ticketing and a knowledge base are free if you keep the "Powered by tawk.to" branding (removal is $29 a month). AI Assist starts at $29 a month, with a free AI plan mentioned "for sites with limited chat volume".

Pros: genuinely free live chat and ticketing. Cons: AI is a paid add-on, and the free AI limit is not stated. See ReplyKit vs tawk.to.

4. Chatwoot: best open-source alternative

Covered in its own section below. Short version: free to self-host, or $19 to $99 per agent a month in the cloud with Captain AI credits.

5. Freshchat: best for a growing support team

Free for up to 10 agents with a widget and shared inbox. Paid plans are $19, $49 and $79 per agent a month billed annually, and the Freddy AI Agent includes 500 sessions once per account, then $49 per 100 sessions.

Pros: generous free plan, part of a wider Freshworks suite. Cons: per-agent plus per-session AI. See ReplyKit vs Freshchat.

6. Zendesk: best when you need real ticketing

Suite Team is $55 per agent a month billed annually ($69 monthly) and Professional $115 ($149). AI agents include 5 or 10 automated resolutions per agent a month, then $1.50 each committed or $2.00 pay as you go.

Pros: the deepest ticketing and reporting here. Cons: more helpdesk than most small businesses need. See ReplyKit vs Zendesk.

7. Chatbase: best AI-only bot on your documents

Chatbase builds an AI agent from your files and website, with model choice and actions. Hobby is $40 a month ($32 billed yearly) for 700 message credits, Standard $150 for 4,000, Pro $500 for 15,000. There is no free plan now, only a 7-day trial, and removing its branding is $1,188 a year.

Pros: flexible, quick to train. Cons: no live chat helpdesk around it, and credits run faster on stronger models. See ReplyKit vs Chatbase.

8. ReplyKit: best when customers message on WhatsApp and you take bookings

Covered in "Where ReplyKit fits" below: an AI agent for WhatsApp and your website, with booking and a leads CRM, from $29 a month with AI included.

Is there an open-source Tidio alternative?

Yes: Chatwoot is the best-known open-source alternative. Its Community Edition is free to self-host, and a hosted cloud version exists if you would rather not run servers.

Self-hosting suits a business with a developer on hand and a reason to keep data on its own servers. For everyone else, the time cost usually exceeds a hosted plan. Our guide to open-source vs hosted bots covers the trade-off for WhatsApp.

Where ReplyKit fits as a Tidio alternative

ReplyKit fits a different business from most Tidio customers: a clinic, salon, tutor, property agent or trade whose inquiries arrive on WhatsApp as well as the website, and who wants them answered and booked without a person watching a dashboard.

Stay with Tidio, or choose Intercom, Zendesk or Freshchat, if you run an online store that needs order integrations, a support team that needs ticketing and email, or broadcasts. ReplyKit has no Shopify app, no email channel and no broadcasts. If the fit is right, start a 7-day trial with no credit card.

How do I switch from Tidio without losing chats?

Run the new tool alongside Tidio for a few days, then swap the website code and cancel at the end of your billing cycle. Tidio's pricing page says plan changes take effect at the start of the next billing cycle, so time the move to that date.

  1. Save what you want to keep. Your contact list, your best saved replies, and the questions Lyro could not answer.
  2. Gather your knowledge. Website address, FAQ, price list and policies: the same sources Lyro used.
  3. Set up the new tool in parallel. Load the same content and set your opening hours and handoff alerts.
  4. Test with real questions. Ask 20 questions from recent chats, plus one your content does not answer. Reject any tool that guesses.
  5. Swap the widget code. Remove Tidio's script from your site and paste the new one in the same place. Check it on mobile.
  6. Brief your team. Show them where chats now arrive and how to take one over.
  7. Review the first week, then cancel Tidio. Fill the gaps from unanswered questions, then downgrade or cancel before the next renewal.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to Tidio?

For a support team, Intercom Fin. For free live chat, tawk.to. For an open-source option, Chatwoot. For service businesses whose customers message on WhatsApp and book appointments, ReplyKit. The right one depends on your channel and whether you need a helpdesk.

Is there a free alternative to Tidio?

Yes. tawk.to's live chat is free with its branding, Crisp and Freshchat have free plans, and Chatwoot can be self-hosted free. None of these free plans include AI replies, so you pay once you want the AI to answer.

Is there an open-source alternative to Tidio?

Chatwoot is the best-known one. The Community Edition is free to self-host, and a cloud version starts with a free plan for two agents. Self-hosting needs someone to install, update and back it up.

How much does Tidio Lyro cost?

When we checked in October 2026, Lyro was a separate subscription: $39 a month for 50 AI conversations, up to $700 for 1,000 on monthly billing, with the first 50 conversations free once. Annual billing is cheaper.

Which Tidio alternative is cheapest with AI?

It depends on volume. Flat plans with AI included, such as ReplyKit at $29 for 1,000 AI replies, stay cheapest as volume grows. Per-conversation or per-resolution AI can be cheaper at very low volume. Price your real monthly chats before deciding.

Does Tidio work for WhatsApp businesses?

Tidio is built website-first. If most of your customers message on WhatsApp, a WhatsApp-first tool such as ReplyKit, WATI or respond.io is usually the better fit.

How we know this. We checked Tidio's plans and Lyro tiers on its pricing page in October 2026, including the monthly-billing prices behind its annual figures, and checked every alternative on its own pricing page the same month. Pros and cons reflect what each product is built for, not hands-on scores. We make ReplyKit, so weigh our view accordingly: for online stores, support teams that need ticketing, or anyone who wants a free live chat, Tidio itself or another tool here is the better choice.
